Persistence of Vision Ray Tracer Version 3.00a *Unofficial* BeOS version Specific Documentation This file contains the documentation specific to compiling and running POV-Ray on BeBoxes running the BeOS (currently 1.1d7). To use it you need to get the 2 generic, unix archives, povuni_d.tar.gz and povuni_s.tar.gz. Unpack them where you want, and untar in the same directory, they share the same directory structure. Then unpack and untar the pov3_beos.tar.gz archive from where you unpacked the 2 previous archives. This will create a directory beos/ besides unix/, and replace some source/ files that need changes. Most of the unix doc files apply to this version, especially for output capabilities, ini and .*rc files, and environment variables. You should definitely get the "official" BeOS shared versions of libz and libpng maintained by Jake Hamby, available at his home page or at ftp.be.com, /pub/contrib/librarie/zlib* and libpng*. *YOU NEED* libz.so and libpng.so, either in /system/lib or where you put the povray binaries to run them ! To compile, go to beos/, edit makefile and set PNGDIR and ZLIBDIR to where you have the libz and libpng include files, then type make. If you want to recompile mpovray (povray 3 with libmoto), get libmoto.o from ftp://www.mot.com/pub/SPS/PowerPC/software/beos/libmoto/libmoto_bedev.tar.gz, put it in source/beos then type make mpovray. Please remember that this version does not support preview display, while the one provided by William Adams from BeSpecific does. So there is little point in using mine, except maybe for those who don't have the full CW version and don't want to wait for William to release a version linked with libmoto. But anyway, as i have been requested to release this, here it is. Enjoy !
